Car flies down NYC sidewalk barely missing pedestrians: Video

Wild surveillance video captured a car dashing down a Brooklyn sidewalk — knocking over entire storefronts and nearly plowing over pedestrians after the driver suffered a medical episode.

The frightening footage, obtained by ABC 7, shows a dark-colored Jeep dashing down the sidewalk Monday afternoon at East 35th Street and Church Avenue in East Flatbush.

The car then knocks down the entrance of a discount store, smashing through its display while sending merchandise flying in every direction before soaring past a furniture store.

The store’s owner said it sounded “like a big thundering noise, like a storm coming or something.”

The horrifying clip shows a woman just barely making it out of the car’s path, while men sitting on a nearby bench rush out of harm’s way.

A young man was also knocked off his scooter onto the sidewalk, according to the store owner.

“He fell over, he just got frightened and rode off,” the owner said.

Police said the driver, a 38-year-old man, suffered a medical episode that caused him to lose control and crash into a pharmacy on the corner of East 35th Street.

The driver was conscious and alert at the time of the accident, authorities said, without saying exactly what the medical episode was.
