Praise Kier! ‘Severance’s Season 2 Teaser Trailer Is Here And We’ve Never Been Happier To Return To Office
Get in, Outies. We’re going back to work!
The Season 2 teaser trailer for Apple TV+‘s critically-acclaimed workplace thriller Severance has finally arrived, and I think I can speak for all fans when I say we’ve never been happier to Return To Office in our lives.
Per Apple TV+’s official synopsis, “In Severance, Mark Scout leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself. In Season 2, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”
While we’ll have to wait until January 17, 2025 to officially explore Lumon’s shocking white hallways, the latest look at the sophomore season of the Emmy-winning series — created by Dan Erickson and directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller — teases Mark Scout’s (Adam Scott) highly-anticipated return to work, more cryptic mysteries, a new group of Macrodata Refiners, a missing person, a flood of frantic flashbacks, and a slew of burning questions we desperately need answered.
Severance‘s 10-episode sophomore season will welcome back fan-favorite Season 1 characters including Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), Irving (John Turturro), Milchick (Tramell Tillman), Devon (Jen Tullock), Ricken (Michael Chernus), Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman), Burt (Christopher Walken), and Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette). However, Season 2 will introduce several fresh faces, including new series regular Sarah Bock.
In the 1:24 video located at the top of this page, The Who’s Certified Severance Bop “Eminence Front” perfectly sets the mood for Mark’s return to Lumon. When we first lay eyes on the MDR rebel he’s having some serious elevator issues (say goodbye to Season 1’s subtle elevator transition). He frantically looks around the metal box, and when the doors open on the severed floor, he runs out as a Helly voiceover says, “Everything they told you about Severance is a lie.” After taking in his cursed surroundings, Marks sprints down the hall with purpose and the flashbacks begin.
As Mark’s racing through the blinding white maze, we hear his own voice beam: “I give consent to sever my memories between my work life and my personal life.” He flashes through visions of a chip being inserted during the severance procedure, Helly in the operating chair, a Season 1 scene of them walking down a dark hallway, a photo of Outie Scout and his wife, and a mashup of other work and personal memories — plus, several new scenes!
We get a glimpse of Helly at the comany gala in the Season 1 finale saying, “We’re not happy.” We see what appears to be two Dylans sitting across from each other in different colored suits. We watch Irving emerge from a phone booth in outside world, Burt close a door, and two hands hold a drawing of that mysterious dark hallway with a red light above the door. Next thing we know, someone’s standing in front of that door. Someone else is riding a motorcycle down a dark street. And then, we lay eyes on a watermelon sculpture of Irving’s head. (Is he retiring?!)
Please try to enjoy each clip equally, and not show preference for any over the others.
As the suspense mounts, we see Cobel standing in an empty conference room one minute and holding a lantern exploring a possible underground tunnel the next. We catch a glimpse of Mark and Helly investigating what may be The Baby Goat Room. We see a hay-covered hallway. We watch Mark experience flashes of Ms. Casey before a Lumon printer spits out a stack of MISSING PERSON signs that feature drawings of her face. After a final chilling voiceover (Season 1’s “SHE’S ALIVE!” soundbite), Mark arrives at his destination and stops running. He peers inside the MDR office, only to learn that three new employees (Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, and Stefano Carannante) have taken Helly, Dylan, and Irving’s desks.
After Mark bluntly asks “Who are you people?” a familiar face in a blue turtleneck returns and flashes a smile. “Welcome back, Marcus,” Milchick says, carrying balloons with Mark’s face on them. “Been a minute!” AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
A familiar Severance score swells in the background, and just like that, we’re left on the edge of our seats until January — or until another trailer drops. Is Mark capable of accessing Innie and Outie memories in Season 2? Where’s his Season 1 MDR team?! Will Cobel switch sides in Season 2? Will Burt and Irving reunite? What’s the deal with the baby goats? And the Waffle Parties? And Helly’s creepy dad? And where the heck does that dark hallway lead?? The questions go on and on.
While we eagerly await more Severance Season 2 sneak peeks, feel free to rewatch the above trailer as many times as needed, and consider clearing some time in your schedule for a Season 1 rewatch before returning to the office in January.
Severance Season 2 premieres Friday, January 17, 2025 on Apple TV. New episodes premiere every Friday, through March 21, 2025.
