Dave Coulier’s wife says his cancer treatment is getting ‘more difficult’
Dave Coulier’s wife is getting candid about his cancer diagnosis.
The “Full House” star’s significant other, Melissa Bring, shared that his chemotherapy is getting “a little tougher” with each treatment.
“He has some really tough days, and as the chemo has been accumulating it gets a little tougher and more difficult,” Bring said in an interview with WXYZ published on Thursday.
Despite the uphill battle, Bring said Coulier, 65, is keeping a positive outlook and using humor to help him through.
“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that in order to really fight it,” she stated. “Every morning, if he’s feeling up for it, we try to put on a song and do a little dance party with the dogs, because when you do feel good, you have to celebrate that too.”
Coulier’s wife said his strength is “just innately in him,” noting he’s lost several special family members to cancer.
“He has had a lot of loss in his life when it comes to having to deal with cancer. He lost his mother, his sister, his niece. His other sister had it,” Bring shared. “I think for him, he takes every stride and really pulls strength from seeing the women that were so close in his life to powering through it, and he just wants to honor them.”
In November, the “Fuller House” alum revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma after spotting a large lump in his groin.
“It swelled up immediately,” he said on the “Today” show. “I thought, ‘Wow, I’m either really sick, or my body’s really reacting to something.’”
Coulier shared that the diagnosis came as a shock.
“The first thing I said to them was, ‘Wait a minute — cancer?’” he recalled. “(I was) feeling like I got punched in the stomach because it never happens to you. You always hear about it happening to someone else.”
The actor had already started chemotherapy and shaved his head when he announced his diagnosis.
Coulier’s family, friends and fans rallied around him — including John Stamos, who faced backlash when he sported a bald cap to “show solidarity” with his “Full House” co-star.
Coulier immediately defended his friend.
“I’m sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as I’ve just begun my cancer journey,” the star wrote in an Instagram statement.
“It’s our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time,” he continued. “I’m a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap — being a true loving friend and brother.”
Coulier is expected to finish chemo treatment in February.
