Craig Carton proves he’s never changed at all

I admit it. I was a sap. And the readers who tried to tell me so were right.

I’d forgotten my own empirical schooling about the addicted being the most soulful, solemn and often believable liars, right up there with sports commissioners.

In 2020 when Craig Carton was released early from a federal prison after a felony conviction for servicing millions of dollars in gambling-attached debt with an estimated $5 million in wire fraud, he was soon returned to the pathetic, redundant, no-better-ideas, late-stage juvenile delinquents who ran and still run WFAN.

But Carton said all the right things — how he fell deep into a hole of his own digging, risked his career and family, how he has no one to blame but himself. For a radio guy whose career and employment were sustained by being a cruel put-down artist and toilet humorist, these were solemn, sober public moments.
