Angel Reese surprises her mom by paying off her mortgage as birthday gift
It was a birthday present so surprising that Angel Reese’s mother nearly dropped her cake.
The WNBA superstar paid off her mother’s mortgage as part of her surprise birthday gift during Reese’s “Unapologetically Angel” podcast.
In a clip shared on social media, Reese had her mother, Angel Webb Reese, on as a guest and could be seen giving her a cake.

That gesture alone seemed to delight her mom, but then Reese revealed an even bigger surprise.
“You said that if your mortgage was paid off that you would retire,” Reese said to her mom to start.
“So your mortgage today has been paid,” Reese said moments later, nearly leading to her mother dropping the cake on the floor. “Today your mortgage has been paid. You ain’t gotta worry about your mortgage no more. And if you want to still work and keep yourself busy, you can keep yourself busy.”

As one would expect, Webb Reese was overcome by emotion as her daughter surprised her with the gesture, putting her hand over her face briefly.
“And when I move to Chicago this year — actually I’m getting a house y’all — you can come stay with me whenever you want to,” Reese added.
Webb Reese again became overwhelmed by the moment and started to cry, prompting Reese to hug her mom and shout “Happy birthday.”

Webb Reese has always been a big part of her daughter’s life and Reese has made sure to pay homage to her mother on the court.
Reese wears the No. 10 in honor of her mom, who wore the same number when she played.
“Being able to just look at her and say, ‘Mom, you showed me. You paved the way for me,’” Reese said about her mom during a 2023 ESPN “First Take” interview.
