New research reveals the luckiest American demographics
Fortune favors the New York man.
Men ages 35 to 44 who live in the Empire State are the luckiest individuals in the country, new research reveals.
The social casino site PlayFame measured more than 2,000 Americans’ “luck scores” by asking whether participants had experienced 20 fortunate scenarios, from landing a lucky break in their career to scoring a surprise flight upgrade.
Only a favored 5% of respondents hit the jackpot across the board.
More than half of the luckiest group were men, and of them, nearly half were between 35 and 44 years old and lived in New York, the study found.
Jerry W., a 36-year-old Brooklynite, agreed that Big Apple men are lucky when it comes to love.
“Indeed, we have the best pool of women available to us worldwide,” he said.
However, “the climb to the top – even in New York – is not without sacrifice, tough times and a good amount of luck,” he continued.
“Men in New York are so very lucky, as they found they were overwhelmingly experiencing lucky occurrences such as finding money on the floor, being in the right place to catch a rare experience or other fortunate experiences compared to others. Maybe it has something to do with the hustle of New York City giving vast opportunities for these to happen?” a PlayFame spokesperson mused about the findings.
Overall, the most common lucky moment among Americans is stumbling upon cash on the ground, with more than half of respondents saying this has happened to them; followed by scoring an ideal parking spot in a packed area, with 36%; and meeting “the right person at the right time,” which has occurred among a blessed 30%.
More than a quarter of participants said they’ve been in the right place at the right time to witness a one-in-a-lifetime event; had a random encounter that led to a golden opportunity; nabbed the last of an item they wanted before it sold out; and seen a shooting star.
Meanwhile, a star-crossed 8% said they’d never experienced any of the 20 lucky moments the survey inquired about.
In general, men experienced more fortunate events and felt more fate-kissed than females – as 28% of men respondents said they considered themselves to be very lucky, compared to only 24% of females, the research found.
Still, over half of Americans consider themselves favored – while a cynical 6% said they don’t believe in luck at all.
People who live in Oklahoma came in first place on PlayFame’s list of luckiest states, followed by those in Vermont, Iowa, Kansas and, in fifth place, Wisconsin residents.
Ill-fated North Dakota residents fell in last place.
