Royal family member Thomas Kingston’s parents recall his final moments on day of death at age 45
Thomas Kingston’s parents have revealed his final moments before the royal family member died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head last year.
The husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, the King’s second cousin, was found dead in Gloucestershire, England, in February 2024. He was 45.
Kingston’s heartbroken parents, Martin and Jill, have spoken out for the first time since their son’s tragic death, saying he was “normal, fun and laughing” just hours before he died.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s “Today,” Jill said there was “nothing that raised any suspicions in our mind” during their lunch outing in the Cotswolds hours before her son’s death.
“He was normal, he was fun, we were laughing at various things,” she recalled.
During their relaxing weekend together, Kingston’s parents recalled “reading books, sitting around the fire” on a cold February day.
After Jill and Thomas fell asleep, Martin headed out on a walk.
While Martin was out, Thomas woke up and went to grab a few things from his car that he wanted to store at his parents’ house.
Moments later, Jill woke up and noticed that her son’s bags were packed but he was nowhere to be found. She then noticed that their outbuilding was locked, prompting Martin to break down the door.
“I would have difficulty explaining to you what it was like without crying,” Martin said, adding that they discovered their son with a gun beside his lifeless body.
“It was a horrendous experience but we would love for something good to come out of it,” Jill said, adding that they would like for their son to be remembered as “a joyful, giving, full-of-life and caring person.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the heartbroken parents revealed that Thomas had been prescribed a common antidepressant after dealing with stress at work.
Thomas’ parents revealed that the specific type of antidepressant he had been prescribed had extreme side effects.
They added that their son should have been asked to sign a document acknowledging that suicide was one of the side effects.
The pair added that while their son was well-cared for at his health clinic, they felt that there were “probably better ways” Thomas could have been helped.
The late financier and Lady Gabriella tied the knot in May 2019.
Gabriella, 43, is the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, the late Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin. Her Late Majesty attended Gabriella’s nuptials with her husband, Prince Phillip, before the monarch’s death in September 2022.
