Broncos teammate disturbed after Josh Reynolds shot in strip club incident
Josh Reynolds was “pretty shaken up” after being shot in Denver last week, according to Broncos head coach Sean Payton.
“Josh Reynolds last week was involved in a very serious incident. … I’m kind of like you where I’ve got the initial details … He’s fortunate,” Payton said on Friday. “I’ve had a chance to talk with him. He was pretty shaken up and I’ll leave it at that.”
The news hit Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles particularly hard.
“Definitely a crazy situation where we could have lost one of our teammates in an incident like that,’’ Bolles said, per 9News in Denver. “I love Josh. I’m super close to him. I don’t want to say too much on it because I know it’s up to the authorities here in Denver and let them handle the situation and hopefully justice is given to the people who were involved in the incident but I’m just thankful.”
Reynolds was reportedly shot twice — once in the back of his head and once in his left arm — after leaving a Denver area strip club early last Friday morning.
He and two other men were allegedly followed and were shot at while riding inside a blue Ford Bronco.
Another man was shot in the back, and a third victim was wounded by broken glass.
Reynolds was leaving the same venue, Shotgun Willie’s, where Grizzlies star Ja Morant infamously brandished a firearm on a live stream while in a private room with a stripper.
The victims said there were no issues inside of the strip club.
On Wednesday, Denver police announced that suspects Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza were arrested in relation to the case and are being investigated for attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
The eight-year NFL veteran signed a two-year, $9 million deal with the Broncos over the offseason.
In five games this season, Reynolds has 12 catches for 183 yards with a touchdown.
He has been on injury reserve since Week 5 after fracturing his finger in a game against the Raiders.
