It looks like there will be a third Belichick on UNC’s coaching staff this fall.

Bill Belichick’s youngest son, Brian, is expected to join the UNC defensive staff as the safeties coach this upcoming college football season, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports.

Brian is set to join his older brother, Steve, who joins UNC’s staff as the defensive coordinator.

Both brothers have previous NFL experience, having coached under their father on the Patriots.

Brian coached safeties in New England for the previous five seasons, where Steve was in multiple defensive roles for the Patriots over a 12-year span before becoming the defensive coordinator for the University of Washington in 2024.

“This opportunity, it’s awesome,” Brian told reporters last month about his father’s transition to college football. “UNC’s a great school, football program, exciting fanbase nationally, down there — not that I have a lot of background on it. People are excited, and that’s great.”

Upon his graduation from Trinity College in 2016, Brian joined his father’s staff in New England, where he started off in the scouting department before moving to a coaching assistant, and later being promoted to lead safeties coach in 2020.

Brian ultimately was let go by the Patriots’ newest head coach Mike Vrabel, who got hired in January.

“Brian is a little different [than Steve], more of an intellectual guy, was in the scouting department to start off, then went to defensive assistant, so he’s well-rounded in what he knows,” 13-year NFL safety and ex-Patriot Devin McCourty said on the “Eye on Foxborough” podcast last year. “I think Brian has grown so much from coaching different players. From having a guy like me in the room, you’re coaching a guy who’s older than you, who’s been in the league a long time.”

Since being named UNC’s head coach in December, the school has yet to officially announce any of Bill’s staff hires outside of the general manager, but the majority of the key roles have been filled.
