Cris Collinsworth reveals true Patrick Mahomes feelings
Cris Collinsworth is a Patrick Mahomes fan and he doesn’t care who knows it.
The “Sunday Night Football” broadcaster essentially admitted as much during an interview on “Up & Adams with Kay Adams” on FanDuel TV on Tuesday.
“Honestly, I don’t care if anybody thinks I like Patrick Mahomes, because I do. I do like the guy,” Collinsworth told Adams. “He’s been one of the most phenomenal players we’ve seen in the league for a long, long time.”
The comment came as part of an answer after Adams mentioned how some people have said Collinsworth goes over the top with his praise of Mahomes.
He did acknowledge that Mahomes did deserve some of the blame for the Chiefs’ lopsided loss to the Eagles, 40-22.
“Some. I mean, clearly some,” Collinsworth said. “He was missing some throws as well that were the classic don’t throw back across your body, which we’ve seen him do a thousand times. That’s what he did for the pick-six. He did not have a good first half, he just didn’t. He not only had to be good, he had to be great and probably couldn’t have even been great enough for him to have won this game.”
Mahomes finished Sunday’s loss with 21 completions on 32 pass attempts for 257 yards and three touchdown passes, while also throwing two interceptions.
The Chiefs QB was sacked six times for a loss of 31 yards.
Collinsworth, for his part, is well aware of the discourse around his perceived Mahomerism, even going as far as to poke fun at himself during previous broadcasts on NBC.
During a December 2023 broadcast, partner Mike Tirico tried to ask him about something other than Mahomes, which Collinsworth made a joke out of.
“There’ll be people excited I’m not gonna mention Patrick Mahomes. I’ve been reading my Twitter,” Collinsworth said.
