Drawing works form its collection, The Museum of Modern Arts, 11 West 53rd Street, presents “Pirouette-Turning Points in Design” now on view thru October on the 3rd floor. The exhibition aims to showcase design as an essential tool in daily living and how it connects with human needs, in all areas, such as personal, social and emotional. Giving life to what was imagined by dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky, who left an unfinished ballet in 1917 called “Caapora”, renowned dancer Herman Cornejo brings his new work, Anima Animal to the stage of The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue, Manhattan, from Tuesday February 18 thru Sunday the 23rd. Inspired by the legend of a mystical Argentinian bird, it invites the audience to a meditation on love and compassion for Mother Earth. Co-produced with the Teatro del Bicentenario, it features choreography by award-winning Anabella Tuliano, an original score by acclaimed composers Luis Maurette “Uji” and Noelia Escalzo, and performed with Grupo Cadabra. Some of the most exciting new French films are coming to New York City this season. Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, presented by Film at Lincoln Center and UniFrance, turns 30, a landmark in showcasing new talents, emerging filmmakers and breakthrough works. To celebrate its 30th edition, many filmmakers and stars will be in attendance to talk about their respective projects, which includes Agathe Riedinger’s “Wild Diamond”, Rithy Panh’s “Meeting with Pol Pot” and Jessica Palud’s highly anticipated “Being Maria”. For its opening night, the Festival will screen Emmanuel Mouret’s “Three Friends” with an introduction by Mouret and India Hair and there’s also a line-up of Free events. Tickets $19.
