We partied in Ibiza for 17 hours straight to save money — here’s how
A middle-aged couple flew to Ibiza for 17 hours — and partied all night long to avoid booking a hotel.
Paul Coulson, 45, and his wife, Suzanne, 42, love dance music and knew they wanted to go to the Horse Meat Disco closing party in Ibiza.
The pair decided to plan their trip around the event and flew from Newcastle at 7:35am on October 26 — arriving in Ibiza at 11:40am local time.
The couple spent the day exploring the old town and grabbing tapas and drinks before heading up to a hill top bar for the sunset.
They went for dinner at Pikes Ibiza before heading next door for the event — staying up all night partying.
An exhausted Paul and Suzanne headed back to the airport for 5am after the night finished to catch their 8:50am flight — flying via Amsterdam to get cheaper tickets.
The pair arrived back in Newcastle at 5pm on October 27 and say they had the best time.
Paul, who works for a safeguarding company, from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, said: “We crammed it all in.
“We love Ibiza. We love Pikes and they were having closing party.
“It was a no brainer.”
Paul and Suzanne, a curriculum lead, had been talking about doing a day trip for the last couple of years.
They decided to go for it when they spotted their favorite DJs were performing in Ibiza on October 26, 2024.
Paul has already been to Ibiza twice this year — once with Suzanne — and the couple love the venue Pikes Ibiza.
They booked their trip around the event — spending £140 ($180.16) on return flights in total.
The pair took an early flight and were in Ibiza old town by quarter past 12.
Paul said: “We went up the hill to find a few bars and tapas places.
“We soaked it up and enjoyed the view.
“It was relaxation at that point.”
The couple then headed for dinner at 7pm before heading to the club side of the venue for the DJ.
They partied until 4am before getting a taxi back to the airport at 5am.
Paul said: “We didn’t hold back on spending.
“Horse meat disco is the DJs we love and we love the atmosphere of what Pikes offers.”
Paul and Suzanne chilled at the airport and brushed their teeth.
He said: “By 6am we’d hit a wall of tiredness and were ready for bed.”
The couple slept on their first flight, grabbed lunch in Amsterdam airport before taking a second 15 minute flight back to Newcastle — arriving at 5pm.
The knackered pair had an early night and are now off for half term.
They estimate they spent around £350 ($450.39) on food, drinks and taxis but don’t regret it.
The cost of a hotel in Ibiza for a night is around £300 (386.09) — so the pair were able to save by going without accommodation.
Paul said: “It’s why we work hard.
“I fully recommend people doing a day trip.”
