Wild video shows cops ram suspected armed robber’s SUV
Dramatic bodycam footage caught the moment Atlanta police rammed a suspected cellphone robber’s SUV while chasing her on a busy highway.
The footage showed officers initially cornering Jenee Johnson, 36, at a carwash Wednesday as they hunted for a robber who stole an elderly woman’s cellphone at gunpoint, Atlanta police said.
The female driver initially appears to follow orders to hold up her hands — just to quickly back up and spin around, fleeing as other squad cars arrive.
The footage then shows the dark-colored Mazda SUV swerving lanes as squad cars chase on either side of the busy, three-lane Interstate 285.
Suddenly, one of the police cars used a PIT maneuver — ramming the SUV from behind to send it spinning backward and into the median of the road.
The SUV eventually came to a violent stop — with the driver, wearing a skimpy bra-like top, barely waiting for it to stop to jump out and try to run away.
“Get the f—k down!” one of the officers yells as Johnson was pinned to the ground and arrested.
Johnson was charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by receiving stolen property, and fleeing or attempting to elude police, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The PIT Maneuver is a technique used by law enforcement personnel since the 1980s to force a fleeing vehicle to abruptly turn 180 degrees, causing the vehicle to stall and stop, according to the US Department of Justice.
