The Ny Brazilian Film Series Returns This Fall To Cinema Village – BRAZILIAN PRESS // O maior jornal brasileiro fora do Brasil
New York– After the enormous success of its debut this past Spring, the NY BRAZILIAN FILM SERIES returns for a second round this Fall season with the event taking place at the iconic indie/art house film venue Cinema Village on November 17 at 5pm.
Presented by Brazilish Productions and founded by Roger Costa, the NYBFS is a 3-hour Multi-Cultural Festival celebrating Brazilian heritage, history, culture, arts and identity. It is a primary platform of entertainment and education through arts for Brazilian culture enthusiasts and Brazilians living in the NYC area.
“Going to the NY Brazilian Film Series is like traveling to Brazil, because you will experience the traditions, the rhythms, the food, and the history of Brazil right in front of you- all taking place in a small stage in NYC”, comments Mr. Costa, an influential cultural producer in the area.
The event reunites various artistic expressions to display the diversity of Brazilian Culture such as film, visual arts, literature, dance, design, culinary and music.
For its debut, the NYBFS had 200 people attending the event. There were 2 simultaneously sold-out sessions, and attendees ranged from 16 years-old to 80 years old, proving that the NYBFS is made for everyone! The audience experienced a party-like event fueled by Brazilian energy.
This time around, the line-up brings an exciting range of new voices and established artists including the NY Premiere of Award-winning Documentary “Belchior- Just A Wild Heart” directed by Camilo Cavalcante and Natalia Dias, the Belchior Tribute led by duo Nono Charlie and Henrique Marliere and the Percussion performance by beloved Afro-Brazilian Female band Batala NY. Lebanese/Brazilian/American visual artist, podcast producer and designer Tarik Mendes will perform a special Live Art Show presenting his techniques and wrapping up an artwork conceived and inspired by the program, which reflects on social resistance and resilience. He will also offer some gifts to the audience as part of his show. While traditional food and drinks will be served throughout the program, including Caipirinha, Guarana, Coxinhas, Pao de Queijo e Brigadeiros, dancers Lee Rodrigues and Anderson Pinto will take the stage for a double session of Dance- first a surprise introduction inspired by Belchior’s work and then a traditional Samba show.
Writer Mirian Carlech, a Minas Gerais-born influential voice in the Brazilian community will have her Book Release at the event, “Spike- Um Anjo de Quatro Patas” as she takes the stage with journalist and TV News frontman Amadeu Maya to talk about her book and inspirations. The book, now available on Amazon, narrates the incredible true love story between her family and their beloved pet, the dog Spike.
The energy and vibrance as well as the educational and cultural importance of NYBFS was seen and experienced back in May with the screening of “Kobra-Auto Retrato” and this Fall season it will repeat!
“That was hands down the most energetic and fun event we ever hosted at Cinema Village! I loved every part of it, when I saw everyone dancing and singing together I shed a happy tear- it was so good! Super fun event!” says Henry, one of the managers at Cinema Village.
