The NY Brazilian Film Series returns for its 2nd edition showcasing various artistic expressions in celebration of Brazilian culture. Taking place at Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street, it features the NY Premiere of award-winning documentary Belchior-Apenas Um Coracao Selvagem, directed by Camilo Cavalcanti and Natalia Dias. To kick off the event, musical duo Nono Charlie and Henrique Marliere will present a Belchior tribute while dancers Anderson Pinto and Lee Rodrigues performs an intro dance. After the film screening, host Amadeu Maya will talk to author Mirian Carlech on the launch of her memoir book, “Spike-Um Anjo de Quatro Patas” followed by Lebanese-Brazilian artist and designer Tarik Mendes’ live art show. The Black female-led Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble band Batala NY wraps up the evening with a drumming session sure to make everyone dance. Plus they will be joined by the pair of dancers, who will perform a special samba set to close the night. Traditional food and drinks will be served sponsored by Altas Horas Lanches. Beloved dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is back for their annual traditional Holidays season at New York City Center, 131 West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, Manhattan. Featuring dazzling, athletic and gorgeous top dancers (including Brazilian rising stars Leonardo Brito and Dandara Veiga) the company celebrates “Legacy in Motion” with performances taking the stage December 4, 2024 thru January 5, 2025.  The program will move audiences with world premieres by Interim Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, former Ailey dancers Hope Boykin and Jamar Roberts, and renowned choreographer Lar Lubovitch, along with a variety of repertory favorites including the essential “Revelations” and the 25th anniversary staging of Ronald K. There are plenty of great entertainment coming to NJPAC this November. Located at 1 Center Street, Newark, it will host a variety of shows and concerts right in time for the Holidays season’s celebrations. British Rock Star Morrissey performs his cool beats on Wednesday, the 13th, while the hits of P-funk, Prince and James Brown will be relived on stage by various Grammy-top contemporary artists (including Nona Hendrix and Bilal) on the special Tribute to Funk! event on Thursday November 14. This is part of the annual TD James Moody Jazz Festival which runs November 7 thru 24 with the best in world jazz music. Tickets start at $50. Dance lovers rejoice. The Joyce Theater, 175 8th Avenue, Manhattan, will keep the heat on during the breezy season featuring fabulous, bold and dazzling dance shows this Fall.
