Andy Cohen Encourages Viewers To “Keep Pushing For Progress” And Not “Threaten To Move To Canada” After Trump Wins
Andy Cohen offered a unifying message to viewers on Watch What Happens Live after Donald Trump won what has proven to be one of the most divisive presidential elections in history.
While joined by Joy Bryant and Whitney Rose on his Nov. 6 show, the late night host dedicated his Mazel of the Day to America. “The country that I love,” he said.
“I know after last night’s election, half the country woke up feeling depressed, angry, and scared,” he said. “The other half was very excited. That is democracy and that is okay. Feel those feelings today.”
He continued, “But please, for the love of God, don’t give up or threaten to move to Canada or anywhere else. The truth is we need you right here in this fight. You matter.”
Cohen went on to praise VP Kamala Harris‘ “historic campaign,” noting she ran it under “insane circumstances.”
He also took a shot at Trump. “And her opponent even stopped calling this election rigged once he realized he won,” Cohen joked. “What a coincidence!”
Cohen concluded his message to viewers with a toast.
“As the son of Evelyn Cohen, I will always express myself unapologetically every chance I get. I encourage you, my fellow Americans, to do the same,” he said, which was met with cheers by his guests and audience.
He is just the latest of many late night comedians who have tried to encourage viewers who may feel disappointed by the election results.
After Midnight host Taylor Tomlinson was much more candid in how she felt about the election.
“A lot of people today feel shell shocked and depressed and can’t believe they have to go to work. Me too. That’s what’s going on here,” she said. “But I will say it is an honor to be on television while women are still allowed to be.”
Jimmy Kimmel also had to hold back his tears as he mourned the”terrible” outcome.
“It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. They just don’t realize it yet.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
