Anthony Edwards demands some respect from Barack Obama

Anthony Edwards wasn’t going to let former president Barack Obama go without giving him the respect he believed he deserved.

The 44th U.S. president chatted with the 76ers’ Joel Embiid about the Timberwolves star as cameras followed Team USA during the 2024 Olympics in Paris for the Netflix documentary “Court of Gold.”

“What do you think of this young guy?” Obama asked Embiid about Edwards. He can hoop a little bit, huh??”

The 23-year-old, who was coming off an exceptional playoff performance to help Minnesota reach the Western Conference finals, overheard the conversation.

He confidently told Obama he felt he was getting sold short.

“Man, y’all better stand down. I’m the truth!!” Edwards told him.

It looked like Obama did not expect the retort and asked one of the new faces of the NBA if he heard him right.

“You said you’re the truth, yeah??” Obama said.

Edwards replied: “These boys know.”

The former commander in chief then made sure to check Edwards’ credentials with some of Team USA’s biggest stars — starting with LeBron James.

The King backed up Edwards.

“The man [is] the truth,” James said after Edwards took the time to explain the whole situation to him.

Kevin Durant overheard the conversion and said “I got nothing wrong with that” in response to Edwards calling himself “the truth.”

Edwards, who did his part to help Team USA bring home gold, has been one of the best players in the NBA during his five seasons in the league.

That includes finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting (2020-21) and attaining All-Star Game appearances the past three seasons while averaging 23.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists for his career.

The Timberwolves are 31-25 this season and in seventh place in the West heading into the second half.
