Costco made a big change, blamed customers: ‘Members can’t be trusted’
They’re grinding Costco’s gears.
Costco warehouses have provided free public-use coffee grinders for members to grind their beans before heading to the checkout counters.
But recently, store locations have begun removing their grinders for members’ use, which is causing an uproar from customers.
A Redditor, who goes by @phteven1989, revealed the devastating news online.
“Uh oh, I don’t know what happened, but we lost our grinder privileges,” the user wrote with an image of a sign reading, “Attention members: The coffee grinders are no longer available in the warehouse.”
A former Costco employee in Seattle, Washington, confessed that the decision was made after grinders were repeatedly broken.
“Grinders were broken at least once a week,” the employee, who goes by @Storkman1007 on Reddit, added.
The Post reached out to Costco for comment.
Some locations requested customers not to double grind their beans to prevent the ongoing maintenance issue, but some people seemed to believe they were above the rules.
“People would do it all day long and clog the burrs,” the Costco employee wrote. “Those grinders cost a few thousand dollars each.”
Fellow Redditors revealed reasons why their Costco warehouse coffee grinders were broken.
“Someone put chocolate-covered coffee beans in the one at my local grocery store,” one Reddit user commented.
“Double grinding, grinding nuts through, dropping brushes. Members can’t be trusted not to disrespect property they don’t own,” another added.
“Ours were next to the food court, so naturally someone stuck a hot dog in one of them,” one person sighed. “We do not have coffee grinders anymore at the warehouse.”
