Donald Trump set to pardon disgraced ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich: source

President Trump is expected to issue a pardon to former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, almost exactly five years after he commuted the Democrat’s 14-year sentence on federal corruption charges, The Post has learned.

It was unclear when the pardon would be issued to Blagojevich, 68. The plan was first reported by Axios.

Blagojevich was convicted of 17 counts of public corruption in 2011 involving handing out political favors in exchange for financial benefits, including trying to solicit campaign money in return for an appointment to Barack Obama’s Senate seat following his election to the presidency in 2008.

Trump, now 78, commuted Blagojevich’s sentence in February 2020, saying the punishment was “ridiculous” and didn’t fit the ex-governor’s crimes.
