Eagles player Saquon Barkley defends Taylor Swift after she was booed at Super Bowl 2025
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley slammed NFL fans for booing Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl 2025.
“You know, I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed. I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there,” the 28-year-old said on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” Wednesday.
Barkley noted how the pop star was just in the stands to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs before pointing out that her attendance has only helped the NFL.
“She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger,” Barkley said, before admitting that he thinks the singer’s presence will help the NFL reach an international audience.
“In football, we’re all about, you know, how can we expand the game and make it more, you know, internationally and we’re traveling to Brazil and we’re traveling to Mexico, and you know, apparently we’re traveling to Australia soon,” he said.
“So we’re trying to expand the game and, you know, her being a part of it’s only helping that,” he added. “I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”
Stern also slammed the booing fans at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and asked if Barkley had any intel on Kelce’s relationship with Swift.
“From where you’re sitting, you think Travis Kelce’s gonna marry Taylor Swift or what do you think? What’s gonna happen there?” Stern asked, to which Barkley admitted, “I have no idea.”
On Sunday, Swift was booed after being shown on the jumbotron while seated in her VIP suite with Kelce’s family members, as well as her close pals Ice Spice, Este Haim and Alana Haim.
After the crowd erupted into jeers, the “Cruel Singer” exchanged a confused look with Ice Spice before showcasing some serious side-eye.
Later in the game, Swift, 35, appeared stressed as she watched Barkley’s team defeat the Chiefs with a final score of 40-22.
The tight end, also 35, looked heartbroken after losing the championship game, though a source told Page Six that Swift was there to comfort him after the blow.
