EMT busted in 2021 NYC murder of man in botched Range Rover heist: cops

An FDNY EMT was busted Thursday in the 2021 murder of a 22-year-old Queens man who was gunned down as he sat in his Range Rover during an apparently targeted heist, cops said. 

Jordan Hannah, 26, who sources said was hired by the FDNY in January 2022, was busted around 9 a.m. on multiple charges – including first-degree murder – in the April 18, 2021 slaying of 22-year-old Kyle Griffin, authorities said.

Officers were responding to a 911 call about the shooting when they found Griffin with a gunshot wound to his back, sitting in the driver’s seat of the white SUV parked at the corner of 41st Street and 30th Avenue in Astoria just after 10 p.m., police said. 

He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital-Queens, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. 

Griffin had just left a nearby lounge with friends when a Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled up next to his Range Rover, blocking him from leaving, prosecutors said.

At the same time, Hannah and an accomplice opened the rear passenger door of the Range Rover, climbed inside and flashed a gun, demanding, “Give us everything you have,” the DA’s office said.

As Griffin tried to drive away, he was shot twice in the torso, prosecutors said.

The suspects then immediately bolted, according to prosecutors.

It’s unclear what exactly was stolen during the deadly stick-up, authorities said. Griffin and Hannah appear to be strangers to each other, according to cops.

Two spent shell casings were recovered at the scene and two loaded pistols — one a black .380-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol, and the other a black 9mm Glock pistol — were found a few blocks away, prosecutors said.

Griffin, a recent grad from SUNY Albany, had just leased the Range Rover for his mother, the slain man’s dad, also named Kyle Griffin, told The Daily News at the time. 

“He wanted to do something special for his mama,” the elder Griffin said. “It’s just love — he thinks big and he always takes care of his mother . . . It shows you what kind of man you are by how you take care of your mother.”

Griffin had been living at home since graduation and working in fashion consulting, while hoping to jump-start his entrepreneurial career, his dad told the paper.

In the meantime, he helped care for his younger sisters, according to the proud dad. 

“He was always helping them with their studies,” he said. “He was a babysitter and protector. It just hurts he left this earth at 22.”

Hannah, who sources said was assigned to FDNY EMS Station 58 in Brooklyn, was arraigned on a 22-count indictment and ordered held without bail Thursday in Queens Supreme Criminal Court, according to prosecutors.

The other charges against him include second-degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, according to the indictment.

If convicted of the top charge, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole, prosecutors said.

“The defendant, now an FDNY EMT, thought he got away with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a young man he tried to rob four years ago,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. “This seemingly targeted robbery will not go unanswered because my office never gives up on our victims.

“Thanks to the relentless work by my  homicide prosecutors and NYPD detectives, we have secured a murder indictment, and the defendant is now in custody,” Katz added. “We will seek justice for Kyle Griffin and his loved ones.” 

Hannah’s status with the FDNY is pending the ongoing court proceedings. 

Investigators are still searching for another person in connection to the murder, sources said.
