Eric Adams charges dropped, Letters

The Issue: The Justice Department orders corruption charges against Mayor Adams to be dropped.

I think we can all blame President Trump for draining the “Washington Swamp” and emptying it here in New York City (“Quit cold Turkey,” Feb. 11).

The Justice Department’s orders to cease and desist legal actions against Mayor Adams reek as bad as the Gowanus Canal.

Adams’ claim that he did nothing wrong only confirms that Tammany Hall had nothing on the Adams administration.

Whatever disagreements I might have with Mayor Adams on specific issues, getting a seat upgrade in-flight is not corruption.

If elected or appointed officials accept an after-dinner mint or free toothpick at a restaurant, Leavenworth would be over-capacity, following Merrick Garland’s logic.

Let’s get back to debate and cease lawfare.

This prosecution was an obscene abuse of prosecutorial power. Adams has so far been a moderate and intelligent mayor.

Let him be.

Mayor Adams, by way of metaphor, has literally received the Monopoly game’s “Get out of jail free card” from President Trump.

For Adams, this was a Faustian deal, just stopping short of giving Trump a ceremonial key to the city.

Adams, with no shame, has made a dramatic change in his lifelong core beliefs.

I’m sure if there was a Mar-a-Lago-type raid on Gracie Mansion, you would now find an 8×10 photo of Trump on his bedroom end table and a red MAGA hat in the top drawer of his dresser.

Now that the Justice Department has dropped all charges against Mayor Adams, the Manhattan district attorney’s office is looking especially foolish.

It went after Donald Trump with nothing groundbreaking against him, and see how that ended up.

This is truly a weaponized court system, with the attorney general or district attorney trying to make a name for themselves.

Meanwhile, they fail to keep true criminals in jail.

They would rather throw the book at honest people than keep real criminals behind bars.

The Issue: Elon Musk’s aggressive cost-cutting as head of the Department of Government Efficiency.

I find myself wondering why Democrats are panicking about Elon Musk (“Ax man Elon: It’s a mandate,” Feb. 12).

Although President Trump has clearly stated that one of his agenda items is to cut wasteful spending at the federal level, and has enlisted Elon Musk’s assistance toward that end, Musk can’t do much more than act as an auditor.

Perhaps that is the issue — that Musk is just acting as an auditor.

Nobody likes being audited.

Arthur Saginian

Trump choosing Elon Musk to clean up the government was a stroke of genius.

Together, these accomplished businessmen — not career politicians — are reshaping the meaning, purpose and structure of the federal government.

To paraphrase Charles de Gaulle: The business of government is too important to be left to the politicians.

Trump and Musk are throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

We are left with the richest of the rich, and the most powerful of the powerful, taking it upon themselves to give us what they feel we should have

What this country needs is a president and Congress that are faithful to the Constitution and work their hardest to defend and uphold it.
