Fresno State players under investigation for potential gambling

Fresno State is the latest college sports program to be embroiled in a betting scandal.

The Bulldogs’ men’s basketball team is being investigated by both the NCAA and university for potential ties to a gambling scheme, according to a report from ESPN

The school suspended two players — Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins — for at least Saturday’s game against Air Force.

In a statement to ESPN, the university said the pair was “being withheld from competition as the University reviews an eligibility matter.”

The investigation kicked off after Fresno State was reportedly tipped on some gambling-related wrongdoing.

Mykell Robinson, who is no longer on the team, is also under investigation.

Robinson averaged 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs but hasn’t played since Jan. 11.

Weaver and Collins rank second and third, respectively, in points per game.

Collins leads the team in both assists and steals.

The trio leads the team in minutes per game.

The probe comes amid a disastrous season for the Bulldogs.

Fresno State is sitting at 5-23 after a 10th straight loss Saturday.

The school’s 22 losses are the most in a single season in program history.

The investigation into the Bulldogs marks yet another betting scandal to hit the world of sports.

In August, Notre Dame suspended its men’s swimming program for at least a year after an investigation revealed several gambling violations.

Former Temple basketball player Hysier Miller came under the microscope of federal authorities for allegedly point-shaving and fixing the outcome of Owls games.

Jontay Porter and Tucupita Marcano were suspended for life from NBA and MLB play, respectively, last year for gambling.
