Golden Globes 2025 Live Updates: Latest From Red Carpet and What to Expect
It will be a “Succession” reunion of sorts at tonight’s ceremony. The show, about the Roy siblings and their battle to replace their father atop his media empire, was always a Globes favorite. It racked up nine wins and 18 nominations for its run, which ended in 2023. So how does it figure into a 2025 ceremony? Three cast members are up for prizes, though all in movie categories.
For best supporting actor, it’s Roy vs. Roy: Kieran Culkin (a.k.a. Roman), is a contender for his performance as a cousin adrift in “A Real Pain,” and Jeremy Strong (a.k.a. Kendall) is a contender for playing Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice.” Both won Globes for their work on “Succession” and both are considered potential Oscar nominees for their big-screen roles. (Tonight they’re up against Yura Borisov for “Anora,” Edward Norton for “A Complete Unknown,” Guy Pearce for “The Brutalist” and Denzel Washington for “Gladiator II.”)
Over in the best actor in a drama category, Adrien Brody, who played the billionaire investor Josh Aaronson on “Succession,” is nominated for his turn as a Hungarian architect and Holocaust survivor in “The Brutalist.” Though he’s a past Golden Globe nominee, it wasn’t for “Succession” but for “The Pianist” (2002), the same movie for which he won an Academy Award. Speaking of which, he too is likely to be up for an Oscar when those nominations are announced on Jan. 17.
