Jenna Bush Hager Shocks Her Guest Host By Asking ‘Today’ Viewers To Set Her Up On Dates: “Make Sure They Don’t Have A Record”
Jenna Bush Hager is still playing matchmaker, even after Hoda Kotb‘s retirement.
The Today With Jenna & Friends host was known for how invested she was in Kotb’s dating life, so it came as no surprise when Bush Hager vowed to find a date for Ego Nwodim, her guest host for the week.
The co-hosts were winding down their week together during Thursday’s (Feb. 6) broadcast when Bush Hager once again said she is trying to “ship” Nwodim with someone.
“Okay, I hope it happens. Off camera, you’re gonna find someone for me,” the Saturday Night Live star told Bush Hager.
But Bush Hager had a trick up her sleeve that shocked even Nwodim. “I’m gonna find someone for you,” she said, before turning to the camera and directly addressing their viewers. “And you guys, viewers, if you have somebody, send it in!”
Nwodim seemed unsure as she laughed at Bush Hager. “I don’t know,” she said. “I mean, send them to Jenna. Jenna, you’re gonna have to do the vetting.”
Bush Hager promised to take care of the “vetting” process for Nwodim. “[I’ll] make sure they don’t have a record or anything. And then we’ll put them together,” she replied.
Nwodim’s week on Today With Jenna & Friends is sadly coming to an end. But more familiar faces will be joining Bush Hager next week: Saturday Night Live stars Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Cheri Oteri, Mikey Day and Chloe Fineman will guest host the show to celebrate SNL‘s 50th anniversary.
“We don’t want you to leave, but we had so much fun hanging with an SNL star,” Bush Hager told Nwodim when she announced the news.
It remains unclear when Bush Hager will choose a permanent co-host to replace Kotb on the show. Scarlett Johansson proved to be an audience favorite, who also earned Kotb’s approval, but it remains to be seen if the blockbuster star will sign on full-time.
Johansson made it clear that hosting Today was her “favorite job” she’s “ever had.” So much so, Bush Hager and Johansson teased that she may return to the show to guest host again in March.
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
