Jeremiyah Love scores wild Notre Dame touchdown
Jeremiyah Love could not be kept out of the end zone during Notre Dame’s Orange Bowl battle with Penn State on Thursday night, and gave an incredible effort to score a wild touchdown for the Fighting Irish.
Love’s Herculean effort to get into the end zone early in the fourth quarter briefly gave Notre Dame their first lead of the game.
The Fighting Irish running back lived up to the team’s moniker on first-and-goal when he took a handoff and proceeded to bounce off at least four tackles before diving into the end zone for the touchdown.
The play in of itself would have been impressive enough, but Love had been a bit of a question for the Orange Bowl, which will send the winner to the National Championship game against the Ohio State-Texas winner on Friday night.
Love had re-injured his right knee during the Fighting Irish’s win over Georgia the previous game in the Sugar Bowl, which forced him to go to the medical tent twice.
Love did return to the sideline for that game, but he had a brace on his knee.
The running back was not listed on the Notre Dame injury report on Sunday and head coach Marcus Freeman made no mention of Love being banged up.
Love has had a massive impact on Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff run this year and already had a memorable run against Indiana.
Love exploded for a 98-yard rushing touchdown against Indiana, electrifying the crowd at Notre Dame Stadium.
That was one of many big plays for the Fighting Irish who rallied to a 27-24 win over Penn State in their College Football playoff semifinal battle.
Notre Dame will face the winner of Friday night’s Ohio State-Texas clash in the national championship game on Jan. 20.
