Juan Soto gifts Mets teammate Brett Baty new car for giving up No. 22

Juan Soto had it written into his record-breaking $765 million contract that he would wear No. 22 for the Mets.

But Brett Baty, who had been wearing the number before Soto, isn’t coming away empty-handed.

Soto gifted the Mets infielder a black Chevy Tahoe, as seen in a video posted on the Mets’ official Instagram page on Thursday.

A new Tahoe starts at roughly $60,000 but could cost up to around $90,000 depending on the model.

Baty went out toward the parking lot where Soto was with the car dressed in his full home uniform.

“No you didn’t,” Baty said to Soto. “My guy!”

The two shared a hug before Soto handed Baty the keys.

There was a giant red bow on the hood and the message, “Thanks for #22,” was written on the rear windshield.

“This is sick, bro,” Baty said.

“I wanted to give you something nice,” Soto replied.

Soto has worn No. 22 his entire career and explained during his introductory press conference at Citi Field in December why he wanted to keep it.

“Twenty-two is the first number I had when I made it to the big leagues,” Soto said at the time, while wearing a gold No. 22 chain. “It was important to me. When the Nationals gave me that number, I was really happy, really excited. That was the first number I’ve ever wore and I am more than happy to keep embracing that number.”
