Louis Vuitton launches Murakami pop-up in NYC’s Soho

An iconic return.

Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Takashi Murakami are getting back together – and the fashion house is celebrating with a dazzling new modular pop-up in downtown NYC.

To honor the re-edition of the historic collabs, Louis Vuitton’s Soho store, located at 104 Prince Street, has been temporarily reimagined — featuring a slime green exhibition space with archival pieces from the pair’s former collaborations and a downstairs cinema room playing digitally enhanced Superflat movies by Murakami from two decades ago.

With the “intersection of past and present, the collection invigorates Louis Vuitton signatures with a playful flair, reviving the essence of Y2K pop culture,” Louis Vuitton’s site describes the collection.

Customers will have the opportunity to see pieces from the first LV x Murakami lines, including the Eye Love Monogram and Monogram Multicolore in black and white (2003/2005), the Monogram Blossom (2003) and the Monogram Cerise (2005), until January 31.

The jaw-dropping new activation will reward shoppers who purchase merchandise from the collection by giving them a token they can insert into a futuristic vending machine containing LV x Murakami stickers, trading cards, and portable games.

The pop-up features a care station, which offers a menu of services, including replacement pieces, canvas cleaning and restoration of hand-painted iconography.

The experience concludes at a Murakami-inspired café, where drinks like cinnamon cappuccinos, roiboos lattes and vegan hot chocolates will be served in custom LV x Murakami cups to clients who make a purchase from January 10-12.

Not only will The Modular Murakami activation be in New York, but it is expected to pop up in London, Milan, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.
