Man, 27, discovered dead inside Central Park: cops


A 27-year-old man who appeared to be homeless was discovered dead inside Central Park amid freezing temperatures Wednesday evening, police said.

The man was found unconscious and unresponsive at about 6:45 p.m. near storage containers at Rumsey Playfield, according to authorities.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, which is located off of East Drive near East 72nd Street.

There are no signs of foul play at this time, but the city’s medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, cops said.

Law enforcement sources added that there were no apparent signs of trauma to his body.

The playfield where he was found hosts SummerStage, a series of outdoor concerts and performances during the warmer months.

The Big Apple was hit with another cold spell this week with temperatures only reaching the low 30s on Wednesday.

It’s unclear how long the man was dead before the body was found.

More information about the individual was not immediately available, but police suspect he was homeless.
