Michael Bolton shares first picture amid cancer battle
Michael Bolton is celebrating Christmas with his loved ones.
The singer, 71, took to Facebook on Wednesday to share a picture with his family members. The photo comes a year after Bolton discovered he had a brain tumor and required surgery “just before the holidays” last year.
“Sending warm wishes for a holiday season filled with peace, love, and joy,” the artist captioned the post. “May the New Year bring health, happiness, and countless moments to cherish.”
Bolton added: “Here’s to fresh starts and beautiful moments in 2025!”
The image shows the former Blackjack member sitting on a couch next to four smiling girls who donned matching pajama tops. Bolton shared in the festivities, wearing a Santa hat and a red-and-white Grinch shirt under a black sweater.
A light blue holiday-themed blanket with presents, snowmen and Christmas trees covered the two-time Grammy winner as he flashed a grin at the camera.
Bolton has three daughters, Isa, Holly and Taryn, with his ex-wife, Maureen McGuire. He is also a grandfather of six.
In July 2023, Bolton told People magazine that both his children and grandchildren make fun of his long locks from the 1980s and ’90s.
“There’s a birthday card where you have to pull my head out of this cake, and then I sing ‘Happy Birthday.’ One of my grandchildren saw it in the store and said, ‘How is G-pa getting so famous?’” the musician explained. “It’s amusing and funny, but they’re not impressed by celebrity.”
Last January, Bolton penned a heartfelt note to fans revealing that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that would require him to take a break from the stage.
“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” he wrote on Facebook at the time. “I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”
In the statement, the “Go the Distance” singer reassured fans that he will be “devoting” his “time and energy” during the “next couple of months” to his recovery, while taking a “temporary break” from touring.
“It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon,” Bolton continued, before thanking his fans for their “love and support” through the years.
“Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can,” he concluded, signing his note, “Much love always, MB.”
In August, someone reported several police cars were at Bolton’s Connecticut home, which gave fans a scare.
“Something with several police cars is happening at Michael Bolton’s house here in Westport CT. I hope he is all right,” read the initial X post.
Bolton responded immediately, writing, “All is good!! Just prepping for a small landscape project. Thanks for checking!”
But in October, the celebrity canceled a few of his concerts for that month due to his health, stating that he is “just not quite 100% yet” and is still on the “road to recovery.”
“It is challenging and often times frustrating because I just want to be out there performing for you but I need a little more time to build back my full strength and stamina,” he shared on Facebook. “My progress is good and I have been able to get a little work done on a couple exciting projects that you’ll be hearing about very soon.”
Bolton, however, is currently set to perform at the O2 Arena in London in July 2025, according to his official website.
