Mom horrified by foul discovery inside normal-looking banana
Buying fruit is never quite as straightforward as you think it’s going to be.
Sure, something might look fine when you buy it, but you can never be certain what you’ll get once you cut into it.
That’s what happened to one Aussie mom who got the shock of her life cutting into a banana this week, and she’s got the photos to prove it.
“Never seen anything like it!”
An Aussie mom has taken to the ALDI Moms Facebook group to share her horrifying find inside a recently purchased bunch of bananas.
“Bought these bananas last week and they were green – have been waiting for them to ripen – my youngest wanted some banana before bed so I chopped half and was completely mortified and grossed out by these bananas,” she said in her post.
“The bananas didn’t look like they had any issue on the outside and were progressively turning yellow. Never seen anything like it.”
“What the heck is that?!?”
Unsurprisingly, commenters shared her disgust at the sight of these bananas that looked more like skeletons.
“Traumatized to cut open my bananas now,” said one commenter.
“What the heck is that?!? Never seen that before either,” another agreed.
“That looks disgusting, never seen that before!” said a third.
“And now I will never eat a banana in my life again,” another commenter said.
But how has this happened?
Others tried to come up with a reason why the bananas look like they do, with some putting the blame on some kind of fungal disease or infection.
“Looks like they have nigrospora which is a fungal disease,” said one commenter.
“Google image says its Moko Disease,” said another.
“The banana has a fungal infection. There’s a decent chance a lot from the same bunch/farm do,” a third suggested.
Whilst others blamed the issue on storage.
“Have they been in the fridge?” one asked.
“Looks like they’re been frozen and defrosted,” a second suggested.
“Could it be the heat? Or they put them in the cool room and pull them out and display them over and over again,” another agreed.
“Return them!”
But, regardless of the cause, ALDI shoppers urged the woman to take them back to the store to see if she can get a refund.
“Just return them with your receipt for a refund. Aldi staff have the same eyes as everyone else, and cannot tell if bananas are bad- except by look,” one person said.
