Most and least common birthdays revealed by new chart

This birthday chart is one for the ages.

The Daily Mail has come up with a brilliant new tool that reveals the popularity of every single birthday in the U.K.

The figures were calculated by averaging out every birth in England and Wales between 1995 and 2023.

The chart allows people to see where their birthday ranks among the 366 days a year.

The ten most popular birthdays are all between September 20 and 30 — with September 27 topping the list.

According to the data, there were an average of 1,944 babies born on Sept. 27 each year between 1995 and 2023.

The Daily Mail analysts claimed that September birthdays are most common for two reasons. The first is that couples may plan to have kids who are oldest in their school year.

The second is couples tend to conceive kids most commonly during the holidays — which fall nine months before September.

On the flip side, December 26 is the least common birthday.

In the years involved in the chart, there were an average of 1,311 babies born annually on Boxing Day.

Unsurprisingly, Christmas Day (December 25) is the second least-common birthday, with an average of 1,378 births each year.

The analysts noted that birth numbers drop during the holidays because induced births and elective C-sections are usually scheduled for alternate dates.

Of the other holidays on the most popular birthday list, New Year’s Day (January 1) is 364th, Valentine’s Day (February 14) is 185th, St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) is 284th, July 4th is 46th, and Halloween (October 31) is 187th.

Leap Day (Feb. 29) was included in the data, as well, despite only coming around once every 4 years.

The date ranks as the 325th most popular birthday out of 366. An average of 1,753 babies are born on Leap Day.

According to the Daily Mail, there were 19,051,773 live births in England and Wales between 1995 and 2023.

The 591,072 average births in 2023 were the lowest number since the late 1970s.

A past study found that September is the most popular birth month in the United States as well.

The data was gathered by FiveThirtyEight from the National Center for Health Statistics and Social Security Administration, who all found that, like the Daily Mail study for the U.K., all the top 10 birthdays in the U.S. are in September.

December 25, rather than December 26, was the least-popular birthday in the U.S. study.
