Plea deal for KSM and other 9/11 terrorists is final Biden ‘Screw you!’ to America
The Biden administration’s toxic legacy continues to do grave harm to Americans and the national interest; the latest outrage is the renewed likelihood that the 9/11 masterminds will avoid the death penalty.
On Monday, an appeals court tossed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s move to quash plea deals offered to Khalid Sheik Mohammed and co-conspirators Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawsawi.
Those deals were signed in July by senior defense official and retired Brig.-Gen. Susan Escallier, an Austin appointee to the Office of Military Commissions.
Escallier horrified America and the families of 9/11 victims when she OK’d the monstrous agreements; Austin — after publicly, pathetically confessing to have been “surprised” by the move — tried to kibosh them, prompting a legal tussle that at the moment seems to have been resolved not in favor of justice and America but injustice and her enemies.
The whole episode reeks of cowardice, toadyism to the left and above all incompetence at the highest levels.
The idea that Austin would even attempt to fob off a catastrophe like this with mumblings about his surprise amid ineffectual efforts to avert it is absurd.
He’s secretary of defense, not VP of sales at a midsize tractor-manufacturing company.
And yes, chief Biden flack Karine Jean-Pierre and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan have denied that the White House had any foreknowledge of the ugly deal.
But at this point how much is their word worth?
Even if they’re telling the truth, no one has any reason to believe them.
Plus, given that KSM’s continuing presence at Gitmo was an obvious obstacle to Biden’s hopes of shutting the prison down, it’s 100% feasible that Biden (or whoever’s been running the country) engineered this obscenity.
After all, sacrificing everything for short-term political gain is the Biden administration’s standard operating procedure: Look at the Afghanistan pullout, the border disaster and everything else.
Even without direct Oval Office involvement, this is still the administration’s work, complete with its trademark incompetence.
At best, this is Biden & Co. bungling literally the most important military prosecution in American history.
Even on the way out, Joe can’t help staining the office he served in and hurting the country he pretends to love.
