Rangers shouldn’t trade Brennan Othmann before NHL deadline

Brennan Othmann is not one of the 10 players drafted by the Rangers in the first round who never wore the Blueshirt for even a single game with the 2021, 16th-overall selection having played three games the middle of last season.

But I am concerned that the 22-year-old winger will never get a fourth game with the Rangers and will instead be used as bait to acquire a rental property prior to the March 7 trade deadline in an effort to qualify for the playoffs.

Perhaps it would be a better idea for the Blueshirts to recall Othmann — who has scored a goal in five of his last six games with the AHL Wolf Pack — to get a legitimate look at him before casting him aside in a small-picture move that I would perceive as shortsighted.

Not perhaps, by the way.
