Red Bulls’ Cinderella run ends with crushing MLS Cup loss to LA Galaxy
The New York Red Bulls came into the MLS Cup as underdogs, and they could not beat the odds.
New York could not overcome giving up two early goals, as the LA Galaxy took home the league’s championship with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Joseph Paintsil (ninth minute) and Dejan Joveljic (13th minute) got the Galaxy off to a fast start at Dignity Health Sports Park, and despite a push by the Red Bulls, they could never find an equalizer.
Sean Nealis did get one across for the Red Bulls in the 28th minute, but it was not enough in the franchise’s first MLS Cup appearance since 2008.
