Robert De Niro, 81, confirms he doesn’t change his 1-year-old daughter’s diapers
Robert De Niro detailed his parenting duties to 1-year-old daughter Gia, whom he shares with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
The “Taxi Driver” star, 81, confirmed that diaper duty isn’t one of his responsibilities in an interview with the Sunday Times published Saturday.
“No, no, but I used to,” the father of seven told the outlet during the conversation, which took place in November 2024.
While discussing his latest business venture — the Nobu Beach Inn — with the outlet, De Niro explained that he’s an “early riser” due to his daughter.
“I’ve got a 19-month-old baby,” he said of his and Chen’s first child together, born in April 2023.
“I spend my mornings watching [the YouTuber for toddlers] Ms. Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle.”
Elsewhere during the conversation, De Niro was asked how his seven children would describe him as a father.
“Oh God, they would all have a different answer. Family is so complex,” he said in response.
Despite his vague reply, he emphasized that he is trying his “best” as a parent.
“I try my best, that’s all. I hope they’ll be happy,” the Hollywood icon added.
The Oscar winner hasn’t shied away from detailing his role as a parent in his 80s, as he previously told the Guardian that his girlfriend does the “heavy lifting” when it comes to taking care of Gia.
“It is what it is. It’s OK. I mean, I don’t do the heavy lifting,” De Niro said during the interview published in October 2023.
“I’m there, I support my girlfriend. But she does the work. And we have help, which is so important.”
De Niro shares his daughter Drena, 53, and son Raphael, 48, with first wife Diahnne Abbott. He shares his twin sons, Julian and Aaron, 29, with ex Toukie Smith.
He also welcomed son Elliot, 26, and daughter Helen Grace, 12, with his ex-wife, Grace Hightower.
Chen, 45, and De Niro have been linked to each other since 2021 and first met while working on his film “The Intern” in 2015.
