Senior royals tapped to visit Donald Trump to renew ‘special relationship’: report

Senior members of the royal family are being lined up for a US visit following Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to a report.

Plans are currently being drawn up for Firm’s highest-ranking members to make the trans-Atlantic trip to help the UK boost its relations with the US, palace sources told The Times of London.

While talks are currently at an early stage, insiders claim the trip will most likely take place in 2026.

“Donald Trump has a clear affinity for the royal family,” a senior UK government source told the outlet.

“He had a great relationship with the late Queen, recently met Prince William and has spoken highly of King Charles. A royal tour to the US would help reinforce the ‘special relationship.’”

“Playing up to his pro-monarchist tendencies is one of a number of important ways we can exert our soft power. You saw that during his first administration and can expect to see it again,” a second source told the outlet.

The Post has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.

While it remains to be seen, King Charles and Queen Camilla may receive an invitation to Washington, DC, next year to attend the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence.

While plans for the historic moment are still up in the air, Trump has said that he plans to invite a slew of world leaders and dignitaries to the “best of all time” celebrations.

Also that year, the US will join forces with Mexico and Canada to host the FIFA World Cup.

It’s possible that Trump may extend an invitation to Prince William given the Prince of Wales’ role as Patron of the Football Association.

One insider said this could be “another helpful opportunity for potential royal engagement with the US.”

It’s worth noting that no elected leader has been granted two state visits by the UK.

Only two former heads of state have received the honor in the past: Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, in 1974 and 2000, and King Olav of Norway, in 1962 and 1988.

On Monday, King Charles sent a personal message of congratulations to Trump on his inauguration and reflected on the “enduring special relationship between the UK and US.”

While there are currently no plans for a UK state visit for Trump, it’s understood that options remain possible for one to be arranged for later in the year.

Typically, foreign political figures and monarchs are invited to the UK on the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with the decision down to the UK government.

Trump previously said he had “automatic chemistry” with the late Queen Elizabeth II, whom he had met during his first term in the White House.

He had also praised Charles, saying the king is a “really wonderful guy.”
