Trace Cyrus shades brother’s claim that Billy Ray Cyrus is ‘healthy’
Trace Cyrus isn’t buying his brother Braison’s assessment of their dad Billy Ray Cyrus’ health.
Trace, 35, weighed in on Friday after Braison shared an Instagram story announcing that he and his father, 63, have collaborated on a new album while adding he’s “grateful” Billy Ray is “happy” and “healthy.”
Braison’s remarks come on the heels of the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer’s meltdown over technical difficulties while performing at one of Donald Trump’s inaugural balls on Monday and a subsequent statement from Trace shared Thursday, in which he expressed his and other family members’ concern for Billy Ray’s wellbeing.
After posting “ask me a question” on his own Instagram story Friday, one fan queried, “Braison is posting your dad is happy and healthy. I’m confused?”
Trace gave a terse and blunt response. “Birds of a feather flock together,” he wrote.
The former Metro Station guitarist followed up with more Instagram story posts about his brother and dad.
“This is what healthy looks like,” Trace captioned a shirtless clip of him boxing with a speed bag.
“Braison I can help you too. Damn. Man up boys,” he scrawled across another video of him throwing jabs at the freestanding punching bag.
In his next story upload, Trace shared a selfie Braison posted in July 2020, adding a crying emoji and writing, “That’s my YOUNGER brother by the way..”
Hours before, Braison shared his view of Billy Ray’s health and the news of their musical collaboration.
“I’ve spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” he captioned a photo with his dad on Instagram. “After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I’m grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make this record. It’s a rare opportunity to make something this special and tell my dad’s story through music. Can’t wait to finally share it.”
Billy Ray has also spoken about his and Braison’s new album.
“This is art imitating life, imitating art,” he said in a statement to People on Friday. “It starts and ends with art. Braison is very talented and [2025] is his year. I’m glad to be a part of it. This record is gonna be special. I’m gearing up for what will be the journey of a lifetime.”
The “Hannah Montana” vet adopted Trace and his sister Brandi Cyrus from Tish Cyrus’ first marriage after he and Tish tied the knot in 1993. The pair, who divorced in 2022, also share Braison and daughters Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus.
In his post on Thursday, speaking on behalf of him and “the girls,” Trace wrote, “It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point. Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.”
“We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it,” he added. “Just like I showed up for you at mamaws funeral when you didn’t expect me to I’m still here right now. As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon. I love you Dad.”
Trace continued, “We haven’t talked in a while but I’m over a year and half clean from alcohol. Guess what? I feel amazing.. I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you.”
The day after his disastrous performance at Trump’s inaugural party, Billy Ray said his equipment “went to hell” but that he “had a ball.”
