‘We don’t have a son no more’

An Alaska mom left a chilling voicemail for her 5-year-old son’s father after she allegedly murdered the boy with a 20-pound weight — cruelly telling him: “We don’t have a son no more.”

Cedar Mae Sarten, 43, is accused of killing the little boy, Bodhi, in her Fairbanks apartment on Oct. 13 before leaving a slew of messages for her ex-partner confessing to it, Law&Crime reported.

“Robert this is really bad you seriously need to come over here right now,” Sarten told the boy’s father, Robert Gagner, according to court documents.

“Please don’t freak out,” she allegedly said. “We don’t have a son no more.”

Sarten is accused of beating her son to death with the kettlebell weight and then repeatedly stabbing his dead body with a knife soon after his father dropped him at the apartment as part of a custody arrangement, authorities allege.

The mom, who has a lengthy rap sheet that includes a reckless endangerment charge against her son, allegedly tried to kill herself before she called her ex and 911.

“[Sarten] called 911 reporting someone had ‘crashed’ her son’s brain with a 20-pound weight,” court papers state.

“The Defendant indicated her son was definitely dead. In response to the dispatcher’s questions about what had happened, the Defendant stated she did not know. She stated the last time she had seen her son alive was when he was falling asleep in her arms” at around 2 a.m.

First responders discovered the boy’s lifeless body on a bed inside the apartment, authorities said.

Sarten, meanwhile, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her self-inflicted injuries.

From her hospital bed, Sarten allegedly left another voicemail for the boy’s father, telling him, “I know you’re mad as hell at me cause he died on my watch.”

“I called you, okay. I called you. I knew something was wrong. I’m not blaming you. I’m just saying,” she allegedly said.

A GoFundMe page set up by the boy’s loved ones described him as the “sweetest most kind-hearted” child “who wanted nothing more than to play and just be a kid.”

“He always had the biggest smile on his face and could talk up a storm. He loved to swing, play at his favorite park, and was always asking his school friends to play on the playground,” the page said.

“He absolutely loved cheese pizza (his most favorite food in the world) and mozzarella sticks. Popsicles were a huge hit as well. He loved to go camping with his dad and be outside.”

Sarten, who remains hospitalized, was charged with first-degree murder on Monday.
