Why Is Laverne Cox Missing From E!’s Golden Globes Red Carpet Coverage?

Awards season has officially kicked off with the 82nd annual Golden Globes taking place this Sunday, but there is one awards season mainstay who is noticeably missing from the action: Laverne Cox.

Her absence comes as a surprise as Cox has become a staple for the Golden Globes with her sense of humor and show-stopping outfits.

But the actress announced on social media just days before the Golden Globes that she decided not to return to the red carpet this year.

“With an incredible amount of gratitude I’ve decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage. I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did over my three year tenure,” she wrote. She shared a video highlighting some of her most memorable moments on the red carpet since she joined E! in 2021.

“These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world’s greatest artists about their work, navigating the pressures of success, etc,” she continued.

Cox did not share a reason as to why she decided not to return as a red carpet correspondent.

E! News co-host Keltie Knight, who will be covering the Golden Globes red carpet this evening, praised Cox’s announcement with a comment. “You did the thing ✨ pleasure working with you queen,” she wrote.
